During my time at EC, I have had several extraordinary opportunities that have expanded my perspectives and made me a more versatile individual. Some of my favorite opportunities include traveling to Australia for a month with a professor and some classmates for Term III, as well as presenting at the Association for Middle Level Education’s Annual Conference in Philadelphia, PA. Because Elmira College is a liberal arts college, I have also had the unique opportunity to see several live performances and engaging lectures, including the award-winning Mamma Mia on stage at the Clemens Center, America’s Got Talent Atlanta-based dancing a capella group Kazual, and Captain Richard Phillips’s amazing story of survival after being hijacked by Somalian pirates on the southeastern coast of Somalia.
AMLE Annual Conference – Philadelphia, PA
- I had the opportunity to attend the Annual Conference in Philadelphia for the Association of Middle Level Education. At this conference, I was able to take part in several sessions regarding improving engagement in the middle levels and meet middle level educators from across the country. I was also able to attend two sessions facilitated by education expert Rick Wormeli. My favorite part of this conference was presenting alongside an education professor and a fellow education major. We presented on introducing inclusive literature in the middle school classroom. This opportunity was priceless and has only enhanced my desire to become a teacher.
